In the legally compliant conduct of our business, as in many other areas of life, the saying goes: prevention is better than cure. Our compliance guidelines provide the framework for legally sound conduct in our day-to-day work. The entrepreneurial activities of the Natal Scheepvaart B.V. are based on the different and diverse legal systems of the various countries and regions in which our company operates. Every employee is responsible for ensuring that his or her actions comply with these principles. This applies to employees across all levels, in all parts of the company and in all countries. The principles that we have summarised in the corporate compliance directive form the basis for legal and compliant conduct. They do not cover all conceivable situations, nor do they describe all applicable rules to be observed in individual cases.

These corporate compliance principles aim to provide assistance for day-to-day work and thus help employees to protect themselves against misconduct. However, they can only highlight areas that are of particular importance in actual practice. In addition, all employees should familiarise themselves with the rules applicable to them and, if in doubt, seek advice from their supervisor, the legal department or the Natal Scheepvaart B.V. Compliance Officer.

Corporate Culture

Corporate culture is an important element of Natal Scheepvaart B.V. activity and an integral component of successful development strategy of the Company, it is based on the main reference points and values the Company adheres to while interacting with employees, partners and clients. Are an integral part of the Company’s corporate culture and one of the main factors of performance improvement. Currently the most important tasks of Natal Scheepvaart B.V. are timely informing the personnel about key changes, projects and events taking place in the Company, support of collaboration and sharing knowledge between the divisions. The Company pays great attention to ensuring productive psychological environment and creation of conditions for realizing the potential of each employee.

Corporate values and reference points reflected in the Code require conscious activity and initiative from each employee. Following by the employees to the unified principles and standards of behavior contributes to formation of reliable and high professional team united by common values, cultural behavior and traditions, and also helps to maintain mutual understanding at the appropriate level both inside the Company and in relations with its business partners and clients. Natal Scheepvaart B.V. Council for Business Ethics is a consultative body providing structural divisions with support in resolving the issues of application and compliance with provisions of the Code, makes decisions and designs recommendations for employees and officials of the Company regarding the issues related to business ethics and compliance, controls meeting the requirements of the Code.

Environment

Natal Scheepvaart B.V. considers environmental protection to be a key obligation. We continually review and improve our practices to gradually minimize – and ultimately eliminate – the impact our activities have on the environment. Our environmental standards are certified globally in all locations to ISO 14001. Through initiatives like Science Based Targets, Natal Scheepvaart B.V. has committed to set rigorous targets for greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions. These reductions will play an important role in limiting global warming. Natal Scheepvaart B.V. ensures the continuous improvement of internal emissions measurement by using an online environmental statistical tool to monitor key environmental data from over 500 businesses worldwide. Natal Scheepvaart B.V. provides customers with innovative tools to help minimize global resource consumption, CO2 emissions and the exposure to hazardous goods. In addition, our eco-consumption portfolio promotes a resource-conserving, reuse-oriented and recycling-based philosophy.

Cargo Incident Notification System (CINS)

CINS is a shipping lines initiative, launched in September 2011, developed to increase safety in the supply chain, reduce the number of cargo incidents on-board ships and highlight the risks caused by certain cargoes and/or packing failures. CINS permits analysis of operational information on all cargo and container incidents which lead to: Injury or loss of life, Loss or serious damage of assets and Environmental concerns. Data relating to any cargo incident on-board a ship is uploaded to the CINS database. Membership of CINS comprises over 60 percent of the world’s container slot capacity. Natal Scheepvaart B.V. has Regional and Head Office Hazardous and Dangerous Goods and chemicals (DG) Centers, checking and approving each DG Shipment, prior loading on our vessels. All Teams are regularly trained according to IMO/IMDG Code requirements and local law and regulations.
